This is not a high power device. It is a CONVENIENT power device. Input can be either AC or DC. That’s right, AC or DC.
It is available in two versions, 5v and 9v. The PCB is the same for both.
Special Warning: On your Lionel layout, ALL connections to a 'Hot' input on all Train Experimenter Shields and ALL connections to a 'Hot' input on a Power Caboose must go to the center rail and ALL connections to a 'Common' input must go to an outside rail. Mixing these connections will result in a dead short, perhaps damaging things. Be consistent. 'Hot' to the center rail, 'Common' to an outside rail. Test it and be ready to quickly turn off power. The Power Caboose has a self-resetting (approximately) 200ma fuse to protect against an inadvertent connection causing a disastrous short.
